The fastest way to lower your Globle score is to stop guessing where you think the country is and start guessing to eliminate space. The world average sits around 7 guesses; with a fixed opening system and disciplined triangulation, 4–5 becomes your normal. Here’s the full system.

The one rule that changes everything

Early guesses are probes, not answers. Your first two or three countries aren’t supposed to be right — they’re supposed to slice the planet into pieces you can rule out. Players who average 10+ guesses are trying to win on guess one. Players who average 4 are playing battleship.

Best starting countries in Globle

A good opener touches as many regions as possible or sits at a crossroads of continents. Our shortlist, from daily play:

• Egypt — the single most efficient opener on the board. It reads Africa, the Middle East, and southern Europe at once. A warm Egypt narrows you to a third of the map instantly.
• France — anchors Western Europe while its color still hints across the Mediterranean at North Africa.
• Türkiye — the literal bridge between Europe and Asia; warm means “old world crossroads”, cold pushes you toward the Americas, Africa’s south, or the Pacific.
• Thailand — splits Asia; pairs beautifully with Egypt as a second probe.
• Brazil — owns South America and reads the Atlantic gap; if both Egypt and Brazil come back cold, you’re already thinking Pacific or deep Asia.
• Australia — the Pacific probe. Cold Egypt + cold Brazil + warm Australia = island territory; brace yourself.

A reliable routine: Egypt → (based on heat) Thailand or Brazil → then commit to a region. Two probes usually leave only one plausible pocket of the map.

Reading the heat map like a pro

• Dark red doesn’t mean “adjacent” — it means very close. Before burning a guess on the obvious neighbor, mentally list all countries within one border of your red guess and pick the most central one.
• Track the gradient, not one color. If Iran is warm but India is warmer, the answer sits east of the line between them. Two guesses define a direction; a third pins the distance.
• Cold everywhere is information. If your first three probes all come back pale, you’re almost certainly on an island day. Switch strategies immediately (below) instead of spraying continental guesses.

The island-day survival plan

Remote islands are where streak averages go to die, because proximity coloring barely works when the nearest “neighbor” is 2,000 km of ocean.

1. Accept it early — three cold probes means ocean, not “weird part of Asia”.
2. Probe with islands: Fiji (Pacific), Maldives (Indian Ocean), Cape Verde (Atlantic), Jamaica (Caribbean). One of them will glow.
3. From the warm island, walk the archipelago: in the Pacific that means Vanuatu → Solomon Islands → Kiribati territory; in the Indian Ocean, Seychelles → Comoros → Mauritius.

• After every game, look at the answer’s neighbors for ten seconds. Tomorrow’s puzzle is drawn from the same planet; today’s answer is tomorrow’s landmark.
• Learn the “invisible” countries: Eswatini, Lesotho, Bhutan, Brunei, Djibouti, Timor-Leste, and the microstates. They’re rare as answers but deadly when they appear.
