How Globle works

Globle was created by Abe Train of Trainwreck Labs and released in January 2022. You get a blank 3D globe and a text box. Type any country, and it appears on the globe colored by how close it is to the secret country. Dark red means you’re adjacent or very close. Pale orange or yellow means you’re way off, sometimes an ocean away.

There’s no guess limit. Your score is simply the number of guesses it took you, so a 3 is a great day and a 14 means you spent five minutes zigzagging across Central Asia. One country per day, and the puzzle resets at midnight your local time.

The skill Globle rewards is triangulation. Say you guess Brazil and get a medium red. You guess Peru and it’s darker. Now you’re narrowing: Ecuador? Colombia? You’re not recalling trivia, you’re navigating a mental map of which countries border which. My first month playing, I realized I had no idea what actually sits between Chad and Sudan. Now I do. How Worldle works

Worldle was created by French developer Antoine Teuteuf (of teuteuf.fr) in early 2022, within weeks of Globle. The setup is stricter. You’re shown the silhouette of a country, just its outline with no borders, labels, or context, and you get exactly 6 guesses to name it.

Each wrong guess gives you three clues: the distance in kilometers from your guess to the answer, a direction arrow pointing toward it, and a percentage showing how close you are. Guess Japan when the answer is Mongolia, and you’ll see something like 3,047 km, an arrow pointing northwest, and a proximity percentage.

Worldle also grew features that Globle never added. There are bonus rounds where you guess the country’s capital, its flag, and its neighbors after solving the main puzzle. There’s also a practice mode, so you can grind silhouettes outside the daily puzzle. If you’re a completionist, Worldle gives you more to do per day.

Which is harder?

Worldle, and it isn’t close on the bad days. The problem is small island nations. A silhouette of France or Italy is a gift. A silhouette of Tuvalu, Comoros, or Saint Kitts and Nevis is a smudge that could be any of forty countries. You burn two guesses just establishing which hemisphere you’re in, and suddenly you’ve got four left with a hard fail looming. I’ve lost Worldle outright maybe a dozen times. I have never technically failed Globle, because you can’t.

Globle’s difficulty is smoother. Unlimited guesses mean every round is solvable, and the heat colors constantly correct your course. The challenge is efficiency, not survival. Landlocked microstates and clustered regions still hurt. Getting dark red somewhere in the Balkans or the Caribbean can cost you five guesses of pure elimination. But a rough Globle day means a score of 12, not a loss.

So Worldle is harder in the “can I even solve this” sense. Globle is harder in a different way: it punishes weak geography knowledge more directly, because there’s no arrow doing the math for you. Worldle’s km readout will drag a lucky guesser to the answer. Globle won’t. If you don’t know that Zambia borders eight countries, the heat map can’t save you from wandering.

Which teaches you more geography?

Globle, for most people, and here’s why. Globle drills spatial relationships: what borders what, which countries fill a region, how big places really are on a globe rather than a flat Mercator map. That knowledge transfers. It’s the difference between recognizing a country and knowing where it lives.

Worldle teaches a narrower but real skill: shape recognition. After a few months, you’ll clock Sri Lanka’s teardrop or Chile’s ribbon in half a second.
